Invitation
Anyone at Highgrove who is interested in our ‘global partnerships’ is welcome to come to the next steering group meeting on Thursday 16 October, starting at 7:30 pm. After this, please stay for the open meeting 8 pm, when we will welcome Caroline Tee who will talk to us about Turkey. We will meet at Highgrove, in the back room. You are welcome to turn up on the the evening, but if you can tell us in advance, it would be helpful if we know who to expect.
You can see the agenda for the October meeting at the Global Partnerships Agenda page.
There will be an open meeting on Tuesday 12 May 2009, when Ken and Ali Barrett will be sharing about their work in Spain.
Another open meeting is being planned as an opportunity to hear from Sally Coates about her work with Tear Fund.
Woodlands Global Partnership Prayer meetings at ADH:
- Nov 10 – Turkey: Caroline Tee; praying for our GPs in France (focusing on the Footes who have recently moved back there); intercession for France
- Dec 8 - praying for Annet in Iraq and Dennis and Charmian in Peru; intercession as yet undecided.
Highgrove Global Partnerships was ‘launched’ to the church at the morning service on Sunday 13 July.
What’s in a name?
‘Global Partnerships’ is the area of our church life that used to be called ‘World Mission’. We changed it because ‘partnership’ implies receiving as well as giving, and it also extends the traditional idea of mission to include practical ways of expressing God’s love such as relief work.
What is happening?
We have established a Highgrove global partnerships team which aims to consider areas such as communication, resources, coordination and publicity for global partnerships activities. There may also be a role in encouraging Highgrove to consider the theology of mission more carefully.
We also have a role most months in preparing a short slot in the Sunday morning service, to tie in with the missionary giving for that month.
Who is involved?
Anyone from Highgrove who is interested in global partnerships is welcome to be involved. So far, the people are: Ed & Deborah Marsh, Nicola Alexander, Maria Stuart, David Bolton, Esme Nourse and Paul Hazelden.
We would really appreciate the involvement of a few more people with some time to devote to some of the practical aspects of the work.
Who do we support?
At present, the people we aim to support are:
- Annet van Egdom (Middle East)
- Catherine T (was Central Asia, home at present)
- Dennis & Charmain Arevalo-Squire (Peru)
- Ken & Ali Barrett (Spain)
- Mark & Malichaba West (Lesotho)
- Mark & Sue Howe (France)
- Sally Coates (Tearfund)
If you would like to find out more about any of these folk, do get in touch with any of the people from Highgrove, listed above - and please sign up to the Global Partnerships email list by sending a message to Ed Marsh via the ‘Contact’ page on this web site.
This list is not closed or final but, on the ‘less is more’ principle, we do want to limit the number of people we aim to support – we believe it is better to support a few people reasonably well, than to support many people badly.
